Driver Samuel Hancock enlisted 3 August 1915.

He was a 26 year old blacksmith from Clifford Street, Parramatta, NSW. He was married and had a sister named Mildred Smith who also lived in Parramatta. He and his family were part of the Church of England. Prior to enlisting, he served with the Scottish Rifles for 3 years before resigning. He embarked with his Unit aboard HMAT Euripides A14 on 2 November 1915 from Sydney. He served as part of the 3 Infantry Battalion. He was taken on strength on 16 February 1916. He served in England and France.
